Abbey Lakey is an interdisciplinary visual artist living and working in Philadelphia. Their practice includes, but is not limited to, working with foraged fibers, handmade paper, natural pigments, found objects, video, image transfer and paint. Her work is rooted in materiality and experimentation. Often examining and documenting the rituals of the mundane, the work explores urban ecology, material memory, labor, process, intuition, and the imminence of change.
Lakey received their BFA in Painting in 2020 and a Studio Art Certificate in 2021, both from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Abbey currently works as the studio manager and papermaker at Paper Think Tank, and is a member of Tiger Strikes Asteroid, the Philadelphia Animation Ensemble and DaVinci Art Alliance, and runs a gallery out of her apartment in South Philly.
